Simon Borg Oliver - Yoga Synergy TTC (24 September to 26 September 2010, Kuala Lumpur)

How to use asana (posture), vinyasas (movement) and pranayama (breath control) to move prana (energy) and citta (consciousness) through the nadis (subtle channels of the body).

It can be said that the main purpose of yoga is to realise that our individual consciousness and the universal consciousness are one; but the practical purpose of hatha (physical) yoga is to enhance the connections within our physical body. This is best achieved by clearing physical blockages in the body and allowing the free movement of energy and information through the subtle channels. In this TTC Simon will teach practical ways to unblock your body and circulate energy and information in its various forms through the blood vessels nerves and acupuncture meridians. You will be shown how to develop your yoga practice towards being effortless, relaxing and energising, with increased strength and flexibility. This type of practice is also very therapeutic and can be adapted for use in all situations. Each class is progressive and the last class will include a 90 minute lead meditative dynamic to static practice that will consolidate the teachings of the course.

The course will include the following:

Essential features of the safe but effective YogaSynergy system
Breakdown of main asanas
Use of breathing in postures
18 bandhas
9 mudras
7 circulatory pumps of energy and information through the body
kriyas pranayama and meditation

About Simon Borg Olivier
Simon was first introduced to yoga at age six learning breath retentions from his father, then the main bandhas from Basil Brown (an Olympic athlete). At age 17, a Tibetan Lama introduced Simon to the philosophy of yoga. In 1980, Simon started the physical practice of hatha yoga eventually learning with BKS Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois and TKV Desikachar. Simon commenced teaching in 1982.

Simon met his main teacher Natanaga Zhander (Shandor Remete) in 1985. Then in 1988, Simon met physiotherapist yoga teacher Bianca Machliss. Together Simon and Bianca have developed the unique Yoga Synergy system. Synergy-style yoga is intelligently designed in accordance with the principles of applied anatomy and physiology, but it can also be very dynamic and fluid. Since 1995 Simon has been teaching courses in the Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga throughout the world. Simon is co-author of ‘Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga’, which is the main text book for a course he developed and lectures in at RMIT University (Melbourne).
